What to know about living at Silver Comet Village

What Type of Care Services Do You Provide?

At Silver Comet Village, we provide independent living, assisted living, memory care and short-term respite stays. Our assisted living neighborhood offers semi-private, studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom/ two-bathroom apartments. Each apartment has a private bathroom and kitchenette. Our memory care neighborhood offers semi-private and studio accommodations in a safe, secure environment specializing in caring for those with Alzheimer’s and other dementias. Our residents can receive assistance with activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility), as well as help with medication management. Three restaurant-style meals per day, a robust lifestyle and leisure program, scheduled transportation, weekly housekeeping and laundry, cable and phone are all included in the price.

What Services Are Offered by Assisted Living?

Our assisted living neighborhood offers separate living units that include a locking door and a private bathroom. Each resident chooses the level of assistance they require, which can include activities of daily living like bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility, as well as medication assistance. What Is Memory Care?

Memory care is provided in a secure neighborhood by staff who have specialized training and a passion for supporting those living with dementia. Our team adapts to the residents’ needs to provide routine and flexibility to engage and care for our community members.

Do You Offer Rehabilitation Services at the Community?

Yes, we offer on-site therapy services available to the residents whose physicians recommend physical, occupational, or speech therapy through Agility Rehab.

Are Assisted Living and Nursing Home The Same Thing?

No. In Georgia, assisted living communities are regulated differently from nursing homes. Some similar services are offered, like assistance with daily living activities (bathing, grooming, and mobility), but residents in assisted living must arrange with an outside agency or individual to receive skilled nursing services.

Is Assisted Living the Same Everywhere?

No. Different states have varying definitions and regulations for assisted living communities.

What Training and Certification Does Staff Have?

All of our staff at Silver Comet Village are fully trained in first aid and CPR. Employees are required to be trained in several areas of expertise, depending on their assigned duties. Several positions require specific certifications, like our certified medication aides.

What Type of Activities Do You Offer?

At Silver Comet Village, we offer activities that are designed to benefit seniors’ physical, mental, emotional, and social well-being. Group fitness activities, games, crafts, and outings are all examples of the kinds of weekly activities that we have. We know that staying social, active and engaged, both physically and mentally, is incredibly important to seniors’ well-being, which is why we schedule regular events and activities throughout the week.

What to know about transitioning to senior living

How Can I Make the Move Easier on My Loved One?

In the first couple of days, try to be there to help your loved one set up their room, attend activities with them, and visit with them. Bring items to the room that have been important to them, such as pictures or blankets.

Can Family Members Help With the Move-In?

Yes! We encourage family members to help as much as possible with the move to help make the transition into senior living as smooth and comfortable as possible for your senior loved one.

Do I Have to Share a Suite With Another Resident?

No, you do not have to. If you would like to live with a spouse or relative, shared living suites are available.

Can I Bring My Pet?

Yes, Silver Comet Village welcomes animals 20 pounds and under. As long as you can care for your pet, they are welcome to join you!

Can I Bring My Own Furniture?

Yes! We encourage you to bring your own furniture, furnishings, or keepsakes. We want you to feel comfortable and at home in our community.

Financing

What to know about financing for senior living

Do I Have to Sign Anything?

Yes. When you move into our community, you will review and sign our lease agreement, as required by law in Georgia. The lease addresses all provisions, policies, rights, responsibilities, and protections for you and Silver Comet Village.

Are Assisted Living Services Covered by Medicare or Medicaid?

No. Medicare and Medicaid do not pay for these services. You may qualify for coverage if you receive health care services from a third-party health care provider.

Are There Any Programs That Help Pay for Assisted Living?

You may qualify for VA Aid and Attendance, which helps cover some of the costs for veterans and their spouses. Long-term care insurance policies may also cover some of the cost of assisted living. We can provide you with additional information.

How Are Costs Determined?

Independent or assisted living community costs are determined by the size and type of living unit and the services and level of care you need. Assisted living communities are required to disclose all available services and fees.

Do Long-Term Care Policies Cover Assisted Living Services?

Many comprehensive long-term care policies allow you to use your daily benefits in several different ways. To find out more, you can contact the Administration for Community Living (ACL) by e-mail at aclinfo@acl.hhs.gov or by phone at 202-619-0724.

If you or your spouse has veteran status, you may qualify for a veteran’s benefit called Aid in Attendance.

Do I Have to Sign a Long-term Agreement and Give up All My Assets?

No! Payments are monthly, and you can always give 30 days’ written notice and move out at any point. There is a one-time community/move in fee but no large security deposit.

Do You Offer Medical Transportation?

Yes, Silver Comet Village provides transportation assistance to and from medical appointments.

Can Someone Help Me With Medications?

Our certified medication aides are available to assist with or administer medications as directed by your physician.

Do You Offer Physical Therapy?

Yes, Silver Comet Village has on-site therapy available to residents who have had physical, occupational, or speech therapy recommended to them by their physician.

Are There Doctors That Visit the Community?

Yes, we have several doctors who visit the community on a regular basis. This includes primary care physicians specializing in geriatrics and several specialists such as a podiatrist, psychiatrist, cardiologist, and more.

Do You Have Nursing 24/7?

We have 24-hour caregivers, not nurses. However, the nurse can be reached 24 hours a day.

Yes, there is a licensed nurse in our community 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
